Blankets For Afghanistan
Our Chaplains are now located in both Afghanistan and Iraq. We normally think those places have unbearable heat (and they do!) However, they can also get downright cold. Our troops are often given sleeping bags and or a lovely gray blanket made of wool that is somewhat thin, and just a bit more than itchy. If your congregation is looking for a chance to help our troops, and others in Afghanistan, perhaps you would like to send quilts or blankets. The troops would be most appreciative!!
If you would like more information on how to do this, simply contact Chaplain Moreno at michael.moreno@lcms.org

That is great…I live in Sumner, WA…how do I send a blanket?? Thanks
Sara,
You may send it to Chaplain Russ Dewell: His address is:

CAMP PHOENIX, AFGHANISTAN
APO AE 09320
Great,I share this information.
Are blankets still needed? Our ladies and kids would get involved in this project
Peggy,
Certainly!! I’ll get you an updated address!!
MIke
I would also like the updated address for sending blankets.
Also, what is the best way to send them. I sent a 35 lb box in February and it cost almost $80. Is there a better way? The largest ‘flat rate box’ is not big enough for 1 blanket. (12″x12″x5″). My congregation has collected blankets to fill about 4 more boxes of the same size we already sent.
Sorry, I did change the address. The one listed above is the correct address. And - let me check with other churches who sent blankets and see if there is a better way to send…thanks for the blankets and the notes!!
Mike
