What Will I Learn In A Military Ministry Workshop?
Thu, Aug 13, 2009
A new avenue in ministry can be exciting, but it can also be somewhat scary. We’re here to introduce you to the avenue of ministry to your neighbors who are in the military. Most of us either know someone in the military, or have a family member who has served. Military families face unique challenges. Unlike most of us, they move, on the average, every three to five years. Can you imagine just getting settled into a new home, new friends, only to pick up and move? The military spouse is often deployed, or on travel, a great deal of the time. This places challenges, and opportunities before the military family.
In this workshop, your congregation will learn how to recruit volunteers from your church, learn how to initiate contact with your local military population, and create a vital and popular outreach that will transform your congregation and your community. Some topics of the presentation include:
Where Do We Start?
What Is A Deployment?
The Military Spouse
The Military Child
How To Make A Difference During Deployment and Afterwards
Recognizing Veterans
Learning About Your Local Military Resources
The workshop will start at 8:30 a.m., end at 4:30 p.m. and the cost is $25. Lunch will be provided. You will receive a workbook, a great learning experience, and have the opportunity to meet others like you who have a heart for our military families. When you leave, you will have multiple resources to take back to your church…we look forward to seeing you there!!

As a sailor, I want to thank you for this effort on your part. We need more organizations to reach out to sailors and the military as a whole! I pray your efforts are successful!
I am a Stephen Minister at Resurrection Lutheran Church, Cary, NC (http://www.rlcary.org/) . I am also a coordinator of a network of congregations (more than 60) that have a Stephen Ministry program (http://www.triangleareasmnet.org/). The congregations in the network are all Christian but not necessary Lutheran. Is it possible to talk to someone about having an Operation Barnabas workshop in our area in 2010. The National Guard headquarters is in Raleigh, NC which is in the center of the network of churches. Can someone contact about scheduling a workshop?
Thank you,
Ron Bostick
